Daniel Aloyious Schmidt was born into this world on December 20, 1924 and departed this world on August 11, 2019.

Dan Schmidt of New Port Richey, FL died Sunday at home following an illness. His wife was Veronica Schmidt(Vanyo) who died in 2013.

Born in Glidden, WI, son of the late A. Joseph and Mathilda (Segel) Schmidt, he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II. After finding the love of his life and settling down in New Hyde Park, New York he had worked as a brewer for Rheingold and later Pabst brewing companys. An active volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America and it’s organization for 35+ years and an active member of the Knights of Columbus for almost as long, and served as a Grand Knight for several years. He and Veronica retired to Pennsylvania in ’91 and they spent many happy years together at their home in ‘The Hideout’ in Lake Ariel, or as they called it, their haven before heaven!

Dan was preceded in death by his wonderful wife, Veronica.

They leave behind 5 children, 3 sons, Daniel & his wife Carole, Freeport, NY, Thomas, Fairbanks, AK and Robert & his wife Ann, New Port Richey, FL; 2 daughters Joan Schmidt, Griffin, GA and Mary Ann Schmidt, New York, NY; a sister Ethel Harrison, MI; 9 grandchildren, Janis, Jacqueline, Rose, Eric, Matilda, Daniel, Veronica, Joseph and Sarah, 3 great-grandchildren, August, Zuzu and Tuni with 2 more great grandsons on the way. Too many wonderful nieces and nephews, great & great, great nieces and nephews to list here. He loved us all and was loved by all.

Friends may call Friday from 5-8pm in the James Wilson Funeral Home 143 Gravity Rd Lake Ariel, PA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday August 31st at 11:00am in St. Thomas More Church 105 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel.

All attending the funeral are invited to go directly to the church.

Interment, St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Duryea.
