Christine J. Schwartz, Scranton, formerly of Lake Ariel, died Sunday morning in the Allied Services Skilled Nursing Center after a long illness.

Born 1949 in Athens, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Atty. Stanley and Inez Curtis Matthews and was educated in Lake Ariel Consolidated School and went on to graduate from the Empire Beauty School in Scranton.  She was a member of the Lake Ariel United Methodist Church.  Prior to her retirement she had been employed by Specialty records and was also the owner of the CJ Boylan Beauty Salon.

Christine was a strong, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She loved to watch her grandchildren play sports. Christine enjoyed bowling,  playing bingo, reading, knitting and crocheting.  Christine loved football and was an avid NY Giants fan. She will be missed by her family, friends and very special dog Kmo.

Christine held several board positions at the Idle Hours South  Woman’s Bowling League.   She also served as the President of the Washington West Tennant’s Association in Scranton Pa where she organized events for the residents.  She was grateful for her Washington West family.  Chris’s family would like to thank them for looking out and taking care of her when she needed them.  The family would also like to thank her home health aide Britney Soffian for taking great care of Christine over the last year of her life.

Also surviving are her daughter Karen Benson and her husband  Craig Benson  of Poultney, VT; son Kevin Boylan of S. Abington Twp; her sister Kathy Pingle grandchildren Mason Havenstrite, Hailey Boylan, Emma Boylan, Abby Boylan, Kyleigh Boylan, Olivia Benson, Camren Boylan, Kevin Boylan;  5 great grandchildren Miles and Ethan Havenstrite, Azalea Boylan, Alayna Boylan and Juan Roman ; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandson Miles Havenstrite and her brother Richard Matthews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3pm in the James Wilson Funeral Home 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel, PA
