Church Free Methodist Church of South Canaan

Funeral services will be held Monday at 4pm in the Free Methodist Church of South Canaan, 19  St Tikhon’s Rd.,  South Canaan with Rev. William Rushik, Pastor officiating.

Cremation will follow in the Lake Region Crematory at the James Wilson Funeral Home, Lake Ariel.

Cassandra “Melody” Horst, Vandling, died Friday afternoon in the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital after a short illness.   Her husband is Stephen Podunajec.

Born 1969 in Bedford, VA she was the daughter of Robert Horst and his wife Carolyn and Marie Brownley and her husband Steven all of Virginia.   She was a graduate of the Liberty High School in Virginia and was of the Christian faith.  She was employed by the United Parcel Service in Dunmore.

Also surviving are daughters Brittany Aleckna and her husband Brandon of Lake Ariel and Brandi L. Stratton of Hawley;  sisters April Spence Cox of Virginia Beach, VA, and Sandra Horst Wendling of Phoenix, AZ;  brothers Dale Meador, Tommy Meador and Robert Spence all of Virginia; a granddaughter Rylee Aleckna;  father and mother in law Paul “Butch” and Barb Podunajec of Waymart; sister in laws Theresa Stratton of Waymart, Michele Havrilchak of Olyphant and Emily Martinkovitch of Lake Ariel;  a brother in law Matthew Podunajec of Canasota, NY;  nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother Tony Horst in 1973.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 4pm in the Free Methodist Church of South Canaan, 19  St Tikhon’s Rd.,  South Canaan with Rev. William Rushik, Pastor officiating.

Cremation will follow in the Lake Region Crematory at the James Wilson Funeral Home, Lake Ariel.

Arrangements have been entrusted to and are under the care and direction of the James Wilson Funeral Home, Lake Ariel.
