Bernice E. Bertig, of East Stroudsburg, formerly a 40 year resident of Lake Ariel,  died Sunday evening at the Garden of Stroud following an illness. Her husband of 53 years is the late Thomas J. Bertig, Sr.

Born in South Canaan, Pa., daughter of the late Otto and Florence Beers Hazen.  She graduate from Business College in California. Prior to her retirement she had been employed as a seamstress in the casket manufacturing industry in Scranton. She enjoyed her grandchildren and pets

Surviving are a daughter Shirley Bedford of Scranton; a son Thomas Bertig and his wife Mary Beth of Lake Ariel; step brothers Desmond Beers of Moscow and Bernard Beers of Florida; grandchildren Ryan and Stacey; great grandson Michael; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a  son-in-law William Bedford; brother Paul Beers and a sister Shirley Hulse
