Interment with military honors in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Elmdale Bible Church 1532 Mt. Cobb Rd. Jefferson Twp., PA 18436

Barry J. Bender, Jefferson Twp., died Tuesday in the Geisinger Community Medical Center after being stricken ill.   His wife of 49 years is the former Edith Cooper.

Born 1944 in Pottstown he was the son of the late Stanley and Violet Hoffman Bender.  Barry was a faithful and active member of the Elmdale Bible Church where he had served as president of the Board of Trustees.  Prior to his retirement he had been employed by the Sean Rist Construction Company as a plumber, a trade he devoted his entire career to.   He was also a life member of the NRA.   Barry was a United States Army veteran serving our country honorably in the Vietnam War.

Also surviving are sons Gregg and his wife Jennifer of Dover, MA and Dr. Brett, DO and his wife Michelle of West Bloomfield, MI;  sisters Katherine Meyers of Texas and Patricia Mackiewicz of Birdsboro, PA ;  grandsons Jackson, Owen and Noah;  nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by sisters Virginia Ruth Keller, Shirley Bender and Dolores Bender ; brothers Stanley, Jr., and William Bender.
