Andrew M. Kizer, Sr. of Salem Twp., formerly of Madison Twp., died Sunday morning at VNA Hospice at Geisinger Community Medical Center following an illness. His wife was the former Sharon Batzel who died in 1997.

Born in Jefferson Twp., son of the late Joseph and Pearl Cowell Kizer, he owned and operated a dairy farm and worked for Case Tire and Service and Sandone Tire. He was a former member of the Madisonville Volunteer Fire Company, the Mountain Monitor CB Club and the Elmhurst Men’s Bowling League.

For more than 28 years he was a foster parent, caring for a total of 53 children and he opened his home to many more in emergency situations.

Also surviving are sons Andrew, Jr. and his wife Jan and Stephen both of Dunmore; a great niece and caretaker Nellie Zawicki of Lake Ariel; sisters Ethel Bisignani of Scranton and Doris Fuller of Avoca; a brother Gordon of Jefferson Twp.; grandchildren Andrew, Jeremy, and Hailey Kizer; great-grandchildren Logan and Natalie Kizer; a companion Iva Kizer; nieces and nephews;  great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a nephew Duane; brothers Harry, Joseph, and Norman.

The family would like to thank Traditional Home Health and Hospice.

Funeral Services will be Friday at 10:00am in the James Wilson Funeral Home 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel.
