Albert G. Kuehnapfel, 87, of WLE, Lake Ariel, died Tuesday at Regional Hospital of Scranton following an illness. His wife of 66 years is the former Miriam Lola Battistin.

 

Born in Jersey City, NJ, son of the late Albert C. Kuehnapfel and Clara Coombs Zintel, he earned a college diploma and a Master’s Degree in mathematics and was a math teacher at Pascack Valley High School, Hillsdale, NJ.

 

Albert had a love of flying and earned a private pilot’s license at age 16. Upon graduation from high school in 1945 he joined the United States Navy’s Officer Cadet program where after four years he became a Commissioned Naval Officer and Pilot. He served from November 18, 1949 to June 30, 1960, earning the Navy Occupation Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. In 1960 he left the Navy and became a math teacher at Pascack Valley High School, Hillsdale, NJ. In 1985 he retired from teaching and began a life of fun and travel with his beloved wife Lola.

 

He was a devoted husband and excellent father to his children. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.

 

Also surviving are sons Gary and his wife Diane, Brian and his wife Maryanne, and Eric and his wife Chinmi; a daughter Karen Fels and her husband Paul; a brother Andrew Zintel and his wife Joanne. Albert has eight grandchildren; Jennifer, Gary Jr., Jaclyn, Carl, Anna, Jimmy, Jamie, and Casey.

 

Funeral services will be Monday at 10:00am in St. John’s Episcopal Church, 564 Easton Turnpike, Hamlin, PA, with services by Rev. Beth Haynes.

 

Friends may call Sunday from 2:00-5:00pm in the James Wilson Funeral Home, 143 Gravity Rd., Lake Ariel.

 

Interment, with military honors, Elmhurst Memorial Park, Elmhurst.

 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church, 564

Easton Turnpike, Hamlin, PA 18427.
