Bernice G. Robinson Morgan, 87, of Lower Mt. Bethel Twp. Easton, Pa formerly of Lakeville, Pa passed away on December 23, 2009 at New Eastwood Care Center, Easton. Born April 7, 1922 in South Canaan, Pa; she was the daughter of the late Karl and Beatrice Bronson Robinson. She was the Valedictorian of her graduating class from Thompson High School. She continued her education at Moses Taylor Hospital Nursing School in Scranton, Pa. She pursued her much loved nursing career at various places including Betts Hospital in Easton and Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale from which she retired after 17 years.

She had 53 wonderful years of marriage to her beloved husband, Elmer H. Morgan, until his passing in July, 1995.
She was a member of Olivet United Presbyterian Church, Easton, and the Young Republican Club, Easton, where she loved to go for dinner.

Surviving are Daughters, Lavonne F. McGary, with whom she resided with for the past 3 years; Robin E. Krom and fiancé Tim Robinson of Lower Mt. Bethel Twp. ; Jean E. Cupani and husband Joseph of Church Hill, Maryland. Grandchildren Timothy K. McGary, Theresa A. Vogel and husband Hermie John, Todd E. McGary and wife Christine all of Easton; Jennifer L. Porter and husband Reid, Christina B. Cupani and fiancé Jason Jarvi all of Arlington, Virginia; Joshua R. Baldwin of Bellfonte; Noel Krom of Hamlin; Laurel M. Krom of Lower Mt. Bethel Twp.; and Morgan E. Krom of Tafton; Great grandchildren Cpl. Nicholas A. Vogel and his wife Abigail of New Bern, North Carolina; Christopher J Vogel and his wife Nicole of West Easton, Pa; Dalton J and Hunter T. McGary both of Easton; and Cirenaty R. Krom of Tafton; Great great grandchildren Taylor M. Vogel of Albrightsville and Kylee E. Vogel of West Easton; and many nieces nephews and beloved friends.

Preceded in death by a sister Betty and brothers Donald, Eugene and Wesley Robinson, also her beloved daughter Gloria A. Kandrat and husband David.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 11am. Friends may call Sunday from 2 - 5pm and Monday from 10 am till the time of service

Interment will be at East Canaan Cemetery Waymart, Pa.

Otto George Barth, Lake Ariel Pa formerly of New Providence NJ died Thursday at Hospice Community Care Dunmore Pa after an illness. His wife is the former Nancy Lane Barth.

Born in Irvington, NJ, son of the late Otto Max and Emily Kummel Barth, he was a graduate of Irvington High School and a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, NJ. He worked as a butcher in his family's butcher shop Barth's Pork Store and was a veteran of the United States Navy.

Surviving are a son James Barrett Barth, New Providence NJ and a daughter Susan Lane Barth Woodland Hills CA; grandchildren Paige Barrett Barth and Maxwell James Barth.

A Memorial Service will be Tuesday at 11am in St Andrews Episcopal Church 419 South St New Providence NJ 07974.with services by Rev Margaret R Hodgkins Rector.

Cremation took place in the Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel.

Irene D. Swingle of Lake Ariel died Saturday evening at the Brighten at Julia Ribaudo
Nursing Home. Her husband of 69 years Rev Robert M. Swingle passed away Oct 4, 2009.

She was born in Lake Ariel daughter of the late Charles A. And Effie Maines Brooks. She was a member of the Hamlin Pentacostal Assembly of God Church. She had been employed as a cook at the Wayne County Prison and had also worked as a seamstress Sherman Underwear Mill in Hawley many years ago.

Surviving are daughters Carol Chapman and husband Hank and a daughter Dianne Swingle all of Lake Ariel; 16 Grandchildren; Several Great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a son Spencer "Bobby" Swingle; a grandson Roland Beatty; Brothers Charles, Ronald and Russell Brooks; Sisters Helen Moore and Ruth Wilmot Butler and an infant Brother.

The Funeral will be held on Thursday at 1pm in the James Wilson Funeral Home 143 Gravity Rd, Rt 296 Lake Ariel with services by the Rev William Frisk.

Born in Scranton, son of Veronica Urbanick Hefty, Hollisterville, and the late Alvin J. Hefty, Sr., he was a graduate of Western Wayne High School and a member of the Hollisterville United Methodist Church.
 
He loved working at the farm, hunting, fishing, and solitude.

Joseph R. Jellock, 51, of South Canaan , died November 22, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. His wife of 19 years is the former Marie Holm. Born in Scranton,son of Joseph F. And Mary Ellen Molnard Jellock, Jefferson Twp., he was a member of the Parish Community of St. Thomas More and St. Mary’s, Lake Ariel. He was a graduate of Dunmore High School and Earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry from The Pennsylvania State University. He was the Director of Regulatory Affairs for Sanofi - Pasteur, Swiftwater. Surviving are a daughter, Sally, and two sons, Emery, and Eddie,all at home; two sisters, Diane Black, Jefferson Twp., and Catherine Owen and husband Glen, Madison Twp. Also surviving are grandmother Mary Molnar, Dunmore, Mother-in-law Marjorie Holm, Bloomsburg, and 4 nieces and nephews. Elsie Flora Spencer Sledzinski, 83, passed away peacefully at home with her children at her side. Elsie met and married her late husband, Stanley A. Sledzinski while he was serving in the Army during World War II. She came to the United States with Stanley and has resided in Ledgedale for her remaining years amongst her children.

Born October 16, 1926 in Billingborough, England, daughter of the late Edward and Bessie Spencer, she always was an inspiration to her children and grandchildren. She taught them all the important lessons in life with priorities of God and family first. All who knew her felt truly blessed and amazed at her strength, faith, and fortitude. She was a loving and compassionate mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and devoted friend to many and will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.

A vibrant member of her community, she volunteered her talents to PTA, Ledgedale Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and the St. Mary’s Altar and Rosary Society for many years, and most enjoyed being a Minister of the Word at St. Mary’s Church, Ledgedale. Elsie was employed in area restaurants, graciously greeted guests on their arrival to Cove Haven and retired as Housekeeping Supervisor at Julia Ribaudo Senior Care Center, Lake Ariel.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at DaVita Dialysis Unit at Moses Taylor Hospital, Dr. Tracy Galardi, Dr. Henry Yeager, Dr. Linda Barasse, Dr. Edward Batzel and the C.M.C. Wound Care Center, and the Jewish Home of Eastern Pennsylvania, who all gave extraordinary loving care during her extended illness and to the Hospice of the Sacred Heart in helping Elsie and her family in her last hours.

Surviving are six sons Bill, Bob and his wife Cindy, Joe and his wife Robin, Mike and wife Ann, Tom, Jim and his wife Donna, all of Ledgedale; four daughters Liz Powell and her husband Rich, Mt. Cobb, Terri Ditty and her husband Larry, Lake Ariel, Rose Sawyer and her husband Tom, Ledgedale, Annie Boandl and her husband Donnie, Ledgedale; 36 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister Betty Timmerheuse and her husband Gus, Folkingham, England; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister Deborah Boldrini; a brother Jack Spencer; a daughter-in-law Pam Sledzinski; a granddaughter Kelly Sledzinski.

Barbara A. Shaffer, Canadensis, died Monday morning at home after an illness. Her husband of 49 years is Albert Shaffer.
 
Born in Stroudsburg, daughter of the late Howard and Evelyn Vaughn Bush, she was a graduate of Barrett High School. She was a lifetime member of the Greene Dreher Sterling Fair Association and a member and Past Worthy Matron of the Harriett Greene # 198 Order of the Eastern Star.

Dale G. Chamberlain, 79, of Lake Ariel, died November 14, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. His wife, Janice E. Chamberlain, and he would have been married for 42 years on December 29, 2009.

Born May 2, 1930, in Cortez, son of the late Florence and Garland Chamberlain, he was a member of the Cortez United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Lake Ariel High School and was a sergeant in the Army during the Korean War serving as a tank commander. After being discharged from the army, he was an owner-operator of a small fleet of trucks for 24 years, after which time he was then employed by Roadway Express as an over the road truck driver for 18 years, where he received numerous safety and achievement awards.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be remembered for his humor and friendly personality. His love for history and reading will always be remembered, as well as his unyielding love for his grandchildren.

Surviving are a brother Richard, and wife Josephine, and a sister Marilyn Wargo, and husband Edward; three sons, Allen, and wife Dawn, Bradley, and Al (P-Jones), and wife Linda; two daughters, Robin Mayeski, and daddy’s little sweetheart, Lisa. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Cortez United Methodist United Church, 967 Cortez Road, Jefferson Township, by the Reverend Art Yetter.

Friends may call Tuesday from 9 a.m. to the time of service at the Cortez United Methodist Church.

Alma Kay Batten, Lake Waynewood, formerly of Scranton, died Friday at home after an illness. Her husband of 59 years is Arthur Batten.
 
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late George E. and Catherine Ayers Burschel. She was a graduate of the former Scranton Central High School and attended Beaver College. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ. Prior to retirement she had been employed in her family business, the former Burschel Dairy. She was a member of the Lake Waynewood Assoc., a member of the Junior League, the Crippled Children’s Assoc., and the Day Nursery Assoc.
 
Surviving are sons Dr. George, M.D. and his wife Dr. Kristine, M.D. of Danville, Ca., and Bradley and his wife Nancy of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren Katie, Paul, Erika, Liz and Kim; great-grandchildren Hannah and Drew; a sister-in-law Gwladys Stanley, Scranton.
 
Private services were held Monday in the James Wilson Funeral Home, Lake Ariel by Rev. Arthur Davis.
 
Cremation took place in the Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel.

Wilmer Ray Peoples

Wilmer Ray Peoples, 77, of Hawley, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 30, 2009 at home. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Florence (DeRalph) Peoples. He was born in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, on September 23,1932, the son of Chester and Blanche (Murray) Peoples. He was a graduate of Punxsutawney High School in 1951, worked for a time as a draftsman and machinist and served in the US Army Reserve as a sergeant in a field artillary unit from 1951-1957.
Upon graduating in 1960 from the Ross Leffler School of Conservation in Brockway, he was assigned to the northeast region as a Wildlife Conservation Officer in charge of land management with the Pennsylvania Game Commission. He served the sportsmen of Wayne, Pike, Lackawanna and Susquehanna counties by managing over 50,000 acres of State Game Lands for 33 years. Some of the highlights of his career included the design of public rifle ranges, the design and development of the Shohola Waterfowl Area and the Bald Eagle Recovery Project. His pivotal involvement with the eagle restoration effort included three trips to Saskatchewan to bring eaglets back to the region and the design of specialized nesting poles.
Wil enjoyed a lengthy retirement with many hunting expeditions and frequent fishing trips, especially to "fish camp" in Hay Bay, Ontario. He also tended a large and bountiful garden and spent his later years learning everything he could about computers and electronics.
In addition to his wife, Wilmer is survived by two sons, Dennis and his wife Deborah of Hawley, Kenneth and his wife Catherine of Center Valley, a daughter, Cynthia May and her husband Glenn of Beach Lake, a daughter-in-law Lea Peoples of Lakeville, mother-in-law Mary DeRalph, brother-in-law Raymond DeRalph, and sister-in-law Rita Pruzinsky, all of DuBois. He was grandfather of Eric Peoples and his wife Joyce, Dana Freethy and her husband Jason, Erin Murtaugh and her fiancee John Schuman, Brian Murtaugh, Peter Lynch and his wife Alicia, Laura and Michael Peoples, and Tessa, Tomias and Nicholas Peoples. He was also proud of his six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, David Peoples, in 1993.
 
In accordance with Wil's wishes, services will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Nature Conservancy, Long Pond Road, Long Pond PA, 18334 or to the donor's favorite charity.

Eric Douglass Dodge died on October 24, 2009 at age 90 after a short stay in Hospice Care. Father of Katharine Dodge of Lake Ariel, PA and Eric T. Dodge of Onancock, VA., he is also survived by four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Suzanne Chapman.


Mr. Dodge was born in Suffren, NY, and maintained a residence there until his retirement. He graduated with a degree in mathematics from Williams College in 1941, and then served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. His profession as a developmental economist took him to many parts of the world. He and his wife retired to Hilton Head Island in 1978.
He was an avid sailor plying the waters from Maine to Granada, a tennis player until the age of 84, and an aficionado of music, especially classical jazz.


There will be a private family memorial at a later date. Donations may be made to organizations dealing with family planning and population issues, the Rocky Mountain Institute, or the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization.

Arthur Marshall Davis, Lake Ariel, died Saturday morning at Mercy Hospital, Scranton. His wife of 51 years is the former Elizabeth Anne Ward.


Born in Lake Ariel, son of the late Edward J. and Edna Bidwell Davis. He was a graduate of Lake Consolidated High School and Lackawanna Business School. He attended the University of Scranton. He was a Navy Veteran assigned to the USS John R. Pierce, DD-753, a destroyer from 1951 to 1955. He was owner and operator of the Lake Ariel Hardware and Supply Co where he worked the majority of his adult life.


A Life Member of the Lake Ariel United Methodist Church, 50 year member and Past Master of Salem Lodge No. 330 F&AM, and a member of Pennsylvania Farm Bureau and many other farm organizations. He was on the Board of Directors of Lake Ariel Bank for 29 years, which is now Pennstar Bank.


He loved Penn State Football, New York Yankees, and High School Basketball. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren


He is survived by daughters Brenda and husband David Zeiler, Tafton, and Denise Schmitt, Altoona; sons Gregg and wife Laura, and Scott and wife Jennifer, all of Lake Ariel. A sister Carol Ashman, Waymart. A brother Dr. Warren and wife Nancy, Lake Ariel. Grandchildren: Ryan, Erica, Brianna, and Garrett Zeiler, Brandon, Amanda, Venessa, and Allison Schmitt, Carter and Marshall, Erica, Donelle, Hayden,  and  Micayla Davis, Michael and Matthew Caccavone. A great grandson Donovan.


The Funeral Service will be held Wednesday at 10:00am in the Lake Ariel United Methodist Church, Maple Ave, Lake Ariel with services by Rev. Norman Faux, Pastor.


Friends may call Tuesday from 4:00-8:00pm in the James Wilson Funeral Home Rt. 296 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel and Wednesday from 9:00 till time of service at the Church. A Masonic Service will be held Thursday at 7:30pm in the Funeral Home.

Born in Paterson, NJ, son of the late Julius and Lillian Van Dalinda Gogolen, Sr., he was a member of the Madisonville Christian Church. Prior to retirement he had worked at General Hose and Coupling Company, NJ. He was a veteran of the United States Army.

Born in Bloomfield, NJ, son of the late George E. and Lucy M. Conroy Davis, he had worked as a quality control supervisor at Walter Kidde fire extinguisher company. He attended St. Thomas More/St. Marys Churches and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
 
Surviving are a son Thomas, Scranton; daughters Kathleen McCarthy and her husband Tom, Bloomfield, NJ, and Mary Lou Heinzel and her husband Mark, Roger City, Michigan; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
 
During his final days he got great joy from the pictures and visits from his 11 great-grandchildren Samantha, Kain, Michael, Jesse, Maeve, Dakota, T.J., Niko, Mairead, Cooper, and Oni.
 
He was preceded in death by brothers Willard, Raymond, and Donald.

 
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday October 19th at 11:00am in St. Marys Church, Ledgedale.

James A. Matroyse of Lake Ariel died Wednesday at Community Medical Center, Scranton, after an illness. His wife of 54 years was the former Margaret Laurent who passed away in 2001.
 
Born in Poughkeepsie, NY, son of the late James and Teresa Matroyse, he was a member of St. Thomas More Church, Lake Ariel. Prior to retirement had worked as a Postal Carrier in the Westfield, NJ Post Office for 30 years. He had recently received an award from the National Letter Carriers Association. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Garwood, NJ. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II.
 
He enjoyed traveling, fishing, crossword puzzles, and reading.
 
Surviving are daughters Margaret Gans, Hamlin and Elizabeth Leonardis, Monmouth Beach, NJ; a sister Teresa Matroyse, Syracuse, NY; grandchildren Kelly Gans and Andrew Cassese.
 
He was preceded in death by a sister Anna Matroyse.

He was a member of the Rockport Hunting Club. He was a graduate of the Greene Dreher High School and a veteran of the United States Air Force.

She loved Scrabble, word puzzles, and was a wordsmith. She loved her family and many friends and especially the Lord. She was known as Grandma to all. She had a merry heart.

Canaan, John, Jr. and his wife Darlene, Clinton Twp.; a daughter Susan Schweinsburg and her husband David, S. Canaan; 17 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

  She was a gradute of Mainland Regional High School in 1973. She spent her career in Marketing and Business Managment with Spencer Gifts inc as a vice president for international Marketing in Europe, she also held management positions with Direct Media, Greenwich Ct, Impower Stamford,ct and manger with L Tersigni Consulting, Stamford Ct. Dot was a devoted and loving wife, daughter and siter, She was Aunt Dot to many children, related or not supporting them with her love, generosity and encouragement. Dot was an accomplished seamstress, she mostly cherished time with family and friends.

Surviving are a son Joseph and his wife Jeanne of Oxnard, Ca.; daughters Betty Covey and her husband Bruce of Lake Ariel and Linda Leshko of Millersburg; a brother George Browning and a sister Delores Winslow of Youngstown, New York; nine grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by a granddaughter Jennifer Covey; a son in law John Leshko; sisters Betty Weil and Ann Carroll.

He was raised as a member of the Salvation Army. He was worked as an union electrician. He was a member of I.B.E.W. Local 81, V.F.W. Post 7963, Eynon and American Legion Post 139, Milford.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War.

Sydney M. Fahrenbach, Lake Ariel, died Saturday after injuries suffered in an automobile accident. Born, March 9, 1990 in Carbondale she was the daughter of John J and Susan Fahrenbach of Lake Ariel.

She was a 2008 graduate of Western Wayne High School and a member of the National Honor Society and attended Lackawanna College. She was a member of the Western Wayne Soccer team and was named to the 2007 PSSCA All State Team. She also played at Lackawanna College.

Surviving are a sister Deanna and Josh Tucker, whom she loved as a brother, of Lake Ariel; paternal grandfather William R Fahrenbach of Lake Ariel; maternal grandmother Doreen McCaffrey of Carbondale; and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. Preceded in death by her paternal grandmother Judith S Fahrenbach and her maternal grandfather Frank McCaffrey. Dorothy H. Samson July 22, 2009 Dorothy H. Samson, Lake Ariel, died Wednesday at Green Ridge Health Care Center after an illness. Her husband was the late Russell W. Samson who passed away in 1993.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late William and Myrtle Bush Hughes, she was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and a member of the Lake Ariel United Methodist Church. She had worked Scranton Lace Co., Manhattan Shirt, and Eureka Printing as a machine operator. She was a member of the Autumn Leaves and the Hamlin Senior Center.

Surviving are a son Eric A. and his wife Holly, Scranton; a brother Arthur, Philadelphia; a sister Marjorie Reynolds, NJ; a sister-in-law Eleanor Heather, Lake Ariel; grandchildren Eric R. and his wife Shannon, Lancaster, PA, and Brandon G., Lake Ariel; a great-grandson Ryan E.; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by brothers Paul and William "Wicker"Hughes Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

Cremation took place at the Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel.

Sherie Ann (Karschner) Klikus, 55, loving wife of John Klikus, passed away after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer Monday morning at V.N.A. Hospice at C.M.C.
 
Born in Sayre, PA, daughter of the late Thomas and Mily Rosengrant Karschner, she was a graduate of Honesdale High School, and she worked for a leading touring company, sending adults on Learning Vacations.
 
A devoted wife, Sherie enjoyed spending time with her family. Although very active, she loved the simple things in life: cooking, gardening, fishing, and wildlife. Always with a smile on her face she will never forget the thoughtfulness from her friends and family.
 
Also surviving are 3 daughters Jamie and her husband Gerry Miller, Hamlin, Cassandra and her husband Keith Barbuti, Old Forge, and Danielle and her husband Tom Warnock, Honesdale; Step-son John and his wife Karrie Klikus, Scranton; a step-daughter Amy and her husband Rob Reed, Mt. Born in Mt. Cobb, she was the daughter of the late Horace and Alta Brown Hollister. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and was a graduate of the Lake Consolidated School and the Lackawanna Business School. She had been employed by the Western Wayne School District, S&W Sewing, and ATI Electric Company.

Surviving are a son James Ball and his wife Tierney of Tafton; three daughters Beverly Weaver and her husband Russell of Lake Ariel, Diane Kroll and her husband James and Gloria Ball all of Maplewood; brothers Bruce Hollister and his wife Roberta of Maplewood and the Reverends Harold and Ruth Hollister of Waynesboro; a sister Verona Williams and her husband Thomas of Tunkhannock; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by sisters Elma June Shaffer and Bonnie Jean Hollister.

     Born in Hackensack, NJ, daughter of the late Adolph and Anna Linke Walz, she was a graduate of Hawley High School and Berks County School of Nursing. She had been employed as a registered nurse at S.C.I. Waymart and Julia Ribaudo Senior Care Center. She and her husband had owned the B&B Diner.

     Also surviving are sons Robert, Hollisterville, Brad, Beau, Jesse, James, and Nicholas, all of Lake Ariel and Brett of Florida; daughters Becky Strait, Bethlehem, and Bonnie Miller, E. Stroudsburg; grandsons Tom, Mark, Bruce and Bobby; great-grandchildren Kyle, J.J., Jacob, Carter, Brady, Brandon, Brent, Hailey, and Marrissa.

       Surviving are sons Frank and his wife Louise of Waymart, Corey and his wife Cherlyann of Delmar, De., and Thomas of Olyphant; grandchildren Kristen, Kevin and Sarah.
       Preceded in death by brothers Corey, Roger and Clayton Cobb; sisters Esther Faller and Sylvia Hoefling.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Charles and Anna Lombardo Fasullo, she was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Ledgedale. She assisted her husband in numerous business activities.
 
She was a woman with a sweet personality who was totally devoted to her family, husband, children, and grandchildren.
 
Surviving are a son Charles F., Jr., and a daughter Jodie Skowronski and her husband Chuck, all of Lake Ariel; sisters Josephine and Florence; 4 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
 
She was preceded in death by a sister Anna.

Kelly Ann Sledzinski, 21, Ledgedale, died Friday at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, from complications as a result of her courageous battle with Leukemia.
 
Born in Scranton, daughter of Michael and Ann Hinz Sledzinski, Ledgedale, she was a graduate of Western Wayne High School Class of 2006. She attended Penn State University and Marywood University, and was a member of St. Thomas More/St. Mary’s Parish Community.
 
She excelled academically and athletically during both her high school and college career. She was an inspiration to many and was loved by all and will be sincerely and deeply missed. The memories shared with Kelly will be cherished forever in our hearts.
 
Also surviving are brothers Michael and James, and a sister Elizabeth, all at home; Paternal Grandmother Elsie Sledzinski, Lake Ariel; Maternal Grandparents Henry and Evelyn Hinz, Roaring Brook Twp.; several Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.
 
She was preceded in death by her Paternal Grandfather Stanley Sledzinski.

Loretta T. "Nanny" Griffin Enslin, Lake Ariel, died Thursday morning at V.N.A. Hospice Unit at C.M.C. after an illness. She was preceded in death by her first husband James F. Yurgovsky and her second husband Graydon K. Enslin.
 
Born in Dickson City PA, daughter of the late Alfred Griffin and Rose Dearson Griffin DePew, she was a member of the St. Thomas More/St. Mary’s Parish Community and "Autumn Leaves" in Lake Ariel and the Hamlin Seniors Center. She had worked in the garment industry for over 20 years.


She was affectionately known as "Nanny" to the neighborhood children and even some adults. She loved the outdoors including fishing, deer hunting, and ice fishing, watching CNN and New York Yankees games, and playing solitaire. She lived with her daughter Roseann and her son-in-law William in Lake Ariel, and had spent the last 3 winters with her daughter Karen in Mechanicsville, VA. She enjoyed driving her grand children to sport practices,  dance lessons, etc. and faithfully attended all of their special events, including baseball, basketball, and soccer games, dance recitals, first holy communions, and graduations. "Death leaves a hurt no one can heal but love leaves memories no one can steal".
 
Surviving are two daughters Roseann Polley and her husband William, Lake Ariel, and Karen A. Walker, Mechanicville, VA; four grandchildren Nicole Polley, Lake Ariel, Sandra Tonetti, Highland Springs, VA, Lindsay Walker, Jeffersonville, PA, Christopher "C.J." Walker, Mechanicsville, VA; one great-grandson William J. Polley, Lake Ariel; two brothers Kenneth Griffin and his wife Vivian, Peckville, and Robert DePew, Pulaski, NY; several nieces and nephews.
 
She was preceded in death by brothers Carl, Bernard, and John P. Griffin.
 
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:00 am in St. Thomas More Church 105 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel.

Prior to retirement she had been employed at Tobyhanna armu Depot as a secratery for 37 years.

George G. McGuire, The Hideout, Lake Ariel, died Saturday morning at home after an illness. His wife is the former Catherine Marren. The couple had been married for 41 years.

Born in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late James F and Lillian Jones McGuire. He was a graduate of St. John’s University, New York. He was a member of the St. Thomas More/St. Mary’s Parish Community, Lake Ariel. Prior to retirement he had been employed by the New York Telephone Company as an area operations manager. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Msgr. McDonough Council 7403 and had served as Past District Deputy and was also Past Grand Knight. He was a United States Navy Veteran.

Surviving are sons Kevin of Lake Ariel, Thomas and his wife Kelly Fisher and Peter and his wife Jena all of New York; a daughter Mary Varrecchia and her husband Ed of New York; grandchildren Aidan, Peter, Sean and Eddie; a nephew.

Preceded in death by sisters Cathy Murphy and Ann Umbers. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 9:30am in St. Thomas More Church.

Homer C. Courtright, Hamlin, died Sunday evening at Wayne Memorial Hospital after being stricken ill at home. His wife of 62 years was the former Mary Evans who died February 7, 2009.
 
Born in Ranson Twp., son of the late Chris and Mildred Dunlap Courtright, he was a diary farmer and a Member of the Pennsylvania Farm Association. He was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church, Hamlin since 1937 where he was a former trustee, a member of the adult fellowship, served on the Finance Committee, the administrative council, and worked in the construction of the new Centenary Church between 1945-1946.
 
Homer was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend. He loved working on his farm with his animals and crops. He was a very kind and generous man who gave always to his family, friends, and church.
 
Surviving are sons Llewellyn and his wife Dawn, Hamlin, and Chris and his wife Patty, Honesdale; a daughter Carol Williams and her husband Hank, Lake Ariel; grandchildren Robert Williams and his wife Kristin, Ryan Courtright and his wife Amanda, Mary Lou Williams, Brenten Courtright, Gwen Courtright, and Lauren Courtright; great-grandchildren Logan and Luke Courtright; a sister Romayne Price and her husband Leon, Stroudsburg; a brother-in-law Ned Evans and his wife Marlene, Clarks Summit; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Doris A. Simons, RN, Hamlin, died Saturday in the Brighten at Julia Ribaudo Senior Care Center after an illness. She was the widow of Kenneth "Cap" Simons.

Born June 1, 1912, in Hamlin, she was the daughter of the late Wyman and Pearle Chapman Field. She was a graduate of the Lake Consolidated School and the former Hahnemann School of Nursing. She was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church, Hamlin. Prior to retirement she had been employed as a private duty registered nurse and also at the former Holidays Hill Nursing Home in Newfoundland.

Surviving are a son Horace and his companion Donna Richards of Tunkhannock; daughters Sarah Mansfield and her husband Dr. Carl of Philadelphia and Dorothy Pesarchik and her husband Anthony of Quarryville; a brother Wyman Field of Lake Ariel; daughter in law Joy Simons of Hamlin; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by brothers Durward, Kenneth, Robert and Bayne Field.

Born in Fordland, Missouri, he was the son of the late Charles and Janie Johnson Williams. He was an Army veteran and a graduate of Fordland High School, Fordland, MO. Prior to retirement he had worked for Pacific Pumps of California and Sani Services of Hamlin. He enjoyed golfing, square dancing, his coffee groups, and was a great joke teller.

Sue Ellen McLain  57, of Madison Twp died friday evening at VNA Hospice at CMC after a short battle with cancer. She was born in Scranton daughter of the late Harold and Marguerite Swartz McLain. Prior to her illness she had been employed by Ritas Sportswear in Moscow, A cocktail waitress at Mt Airy Lodge, specialty records and finally as nurses aide.She lived for her granchildren and was always busy taking them places. She touched so many lives and will be missed by those who really knew her. Sue is finally at peace with her mother in heaven who died 7 months ago.

He was a school bus driver, a courier for L.A. Bank, and had been employed W.A. Williams Equipment Sales. He was a graduate of Lake Ariel High School, a member of the Lake Ariel United Methodist Church, a 50 year member of Salem Lodge 330 F. & A.M, and American Legion Post 807. He was veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II. He was a P.O.W. in Germany captured during the Battle of the Bulge.

         Edward H. Relph, Sterling, died Wednesday afternoon in the VNA Hospice Unit at the Community Medical Center after an illness. His wife is the former Dorothy K. Klynman. The couple had been married for 63 years.
         Born in Ridgefield, NJ and lived there until 1979 when he moved to Sterling. He was the son of the late Herbert A and Dorothy A Gervaize Relph. He was a graduate of Lafayette College with a degree in Mechanical Engineering where he was a member of the Kappa Delta Rho Fraternity. He was a member of the Sterling United Methodist Church, the Wall-Sebring American Legion Post #274, Gouldsboro and a life member of the Ridgefield First Aid and Ambulance Corps of which he was a former Captain and also served as an American Red Cross first aid instructor.. Prior to retirement he was the Vice President of the Herbert A. Relph, Jr., Inc a mason’ building materials and fuel company in Ridgefield, NJ. He was a United States Navy veteran serving during WWII in the Pacific.
         Surviving are a son David E and his wife Vicki of Greentown; daughters Barb J. Ceresnak and her husband Randy of Franklin Lakes, NJ and Bonnie R Amorini and her husband Joseph of Sterling; a step sister Judith Cajzer of New Jersey ; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a large extended family.
        Preceded in death by a sister Alva Burton.

Josephine A. Sledzinski, 95, Ledgedale, died Thursday morning in the Mercy Hospital after an illness. Her husband of 61 years is Kosteck Sledzinski.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Ernestine Dipyatic Martinkovitch. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Ledgedale as well as it’s Altar and Rosary Society, the Ladies Auxiliary of Orchard Lake, Michigan, a life member of the Hamlin PTA, and was also a life member of the Ledgedale Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary. She also attended the Hamlin Senior Center for the past 10 years.

She always liked to help older people. She never had a harsh word for anyone and was loved by all. She loved music, bingo, pinochle, family and friends.

Surviving are sons Victor C. Sledzinski and his wife Marsha of Ledgedale and Stephen Sledzinski and his wife Susan of S. Canaan; daughters Elizabeth Reed of Lake Ariel, Alice Martin and her husband Frank and Barbara Phillips and her husband Dale all of Ledgedale; a sister Margaret Kibelbek of Bontyville; ten grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by a brother John Martinkovitch; five sisters Ilona Martinkovitch, Pauline Kloss, Mary Zateeny, Ceil Echans and Katherine Karp Zalewski.

She was born in Pottstown daughter of Elaine Schwoyer Ritter of Hamlin and the late Harold Ritter. Pam worked at Shelleys Restaurant Formerly the Hamlin Diner and was a member of Ledgedale Ladies Auxiliary as a former secretary.

Pam was unique and special person with a genuine smile to all, greeting you everyday as long lost friend, with an infectious laugh you would hear for a mile. She loved everyone and saw only the good in people. She was a ray of sunshine on a rainy day a gift from god to all that had the privilege to know her.

Surviving are sons Billy and Adam at home. Daughter Katie also at home. Sister Renee Troxel of Phoenixville, Brother Barry Ritter of Sterling. Mother in Law Elsie Sledzinski of Ledgedale, And a huge extended family with several sister and brother in laws, nieces and nephews and friends that adored her.

Therese M. Flynn of Lake Ariel died Thursday evening in Mercy Hospice. Her husband of 47 years, William E. Flynn, died July 20, 1993.

Born March 4, 1925, in the Minooka section of Scranton, daughter of the late Albert and Mary Sumbrum Opinsky, she attended parochial school in South Scranton, leaving school early to help support her family. Upon her marriage, she became a full-time wife and a mother of four. Once her family was raised, Therese enjoyed traveling, taking occasional trips abroad including several to Ireland. Locally, she enjoyed many excursions to Lancaster. She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Thomas More Church, Lake Ariel. For many years, she attended St. Ann's Novena.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Mercy Hospital and especially the nursing staff in the hospice unit for their gentle care and compassion while mom was a patient there. It would also like to thank Jane and Jim Zurbriggen for their care and kindness to mom for the past two years, and Celine and John Tiel for their constant vigil.

Surviving are four children, William J. Flynn and wife, Roseann, Scranton; Celine Belmore, Lake Ariel; Thomas Flynn, with whom she resided in Lake Ariel; and Francis Flynn, Newfoundland; seven grandchildren, Robert DePrimo and wife, Sherri; Mark DePrimo and wife, Chris; Stephanie Flynn; Erica Flynn Krysko and husband, Robert; Stacey, Jessica and Sean Flynn; four great-grandchildren, Giana and Jaedyn DePrimo, and Evan and Ava Krysko; two step-great-grandchildren, Victoria and Matthew Rudavitz; two sisters Celine and husband, John Tiel, Honesdale; and Joan and husband, Raymond Latournous, Hawley; five brothers, Albert Opinsky and wife, Isabelle, Honesdale; Paul Opinsky, New York; John Opinsky, Scranton; Robert Opinsky and wife, Edie, Anchorage, Alaska; and Harold Opinsky, Dalton; three sisters-in-law, Rita Graziano, Factoryville; Margaret and husband, Joseph Foglietta, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; and Madeline Flynn, Union, N.J.; a brother-in-law, Francis and wife, Estelle Flynn, Levittown; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Helen Franc, 104, Lake Ariel, went to be with the Lord and loved ones Tuesday at home after an illness. Her husband was the late Theodore Franc.
 
Born in Lake Ariel, daughter of the late Emerson and Alice Frisbie Frisbie, she was a graduate of the Lake Vocational School and the Stroudsburg Normal School. She was a school teacher who taught in Cold Spring and S. Canaan. She was a member of the Lake Ariel United Methodist Church.
 
She was known for her baking skills, she loved to play scrabble, crochet, her flowers, and birds. The family would like to thank the girls for Hospice, the retired teachers for their cards, flowers and visits. And a special heart felt thanks to Helen’s sister Betty who was her primary care-giver.
 
Surviving are a son Bennie Franc and a daughter Elaine Cook, both of Lake Ariel; sisters Betty and Connie Gruenewald, both of Coopersburg, PA; 9 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great grandchildren; 1 great-great-great grandchild; several nieces.

Leonard A. Wargo, Lake Ariel, died Monday at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian Hospital after an illness. His companion of 21 years is Robin Fuller, Lake Ariel.
 
Born in Lake Ariel, son of the late Andrew E. and Martha Benjamin Wargo, he was the owner of Head’s Up Flooring for 33 years. He was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church, Hamlin and a graduate of the Lake Consolidated School, Lake Ariel.
 
Surviving are sons Leonard and his wife Amie, Lakeville and Andrew and his wife Holly, Lake Ariel; daughters Demanie Wargo, Lake Ariel, and Sharon Guarino and her husband William, Waymart; a sister Freda Black and her husband Roger, Hamlin; 5 grandchildren Gracie, Kyle, Dawson, Landon, and Adysen.
 
A Memorial Service will be Friday at 11:00am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Rt. 296 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with services by Rev. Norman Faux.
Friends may call Thursday from 5:00-8:00pm.
 
Cremation took place at the Lake Region Crematory at the James Wilson Funeral Home.

Yolanda M. Wilson

Yolanda M. Wilson, Lake Ariel, died Thursday in the Brighten at Julia Ribuado Senior Care Center after an illness. She was the widow of Frank Perkins.

Born November 3, 1909 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Very Rev. Dean Michael and Yolanda Kaminsky Jackovics. She attended St. Thomas More Church, Lake Ariel. Yolanda achieved her early schooling at Marywood Seminary in Green-Ridge and spent her youth next to Lake Ariel at the family cottage which was purchased in 1917 by her father and remains in the family to this day.

Yolanda journeyed through life with intelligence and curiosity. In 1939 she took a two month honeymoon across America by car with her husband Frank. After decades in the NYC area, with the death of her husband, she moved to northern rural Vermont. She explored the Allagash in northern Main by canoe, lived in Spain for a year and spent years in Florida, Georgia, Maine and upstate NY. She dealt with the unexpected difficulties of life with understated strength and bravery. She was a teacher by profession and avocation to all of those who cared to watch and learn right up to her last difficult days.

Surviving are two sons Frank Perkins of Lake Ariel and Ted Perkins of New York; two grandchildren.

Preceded in death by brothers Thomas, Michael, Theodore, and Joseph.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10am in St. Thomas More Church.

Cremation took place in the Lake Region Crematory at the James Wilson Funeral Home.

Mary G. Courtright, Hamlin, died Saturday in the VNA Hospice Unit at the Community Medical Center after an illness. Her husband is Homer C. Courtright. The couple had been married for 62 years.

Born in Taylor, she was the daughter of the late Llewellyn and Gertrude Lewis Evans. She was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church and it’s various organization’s and the Harriet Greene Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a graduate of Taylor High School and the Bloomsburg State Teachers College. Prior to retirement, she had been employed as a elementary school teacher starting in 1941 and taught at the Hamlin Elementary School, formerly the Salem Twp. school. Her career spanned over forty years.

She was truly a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and teacher. Her life reflected her beautiful Christian faith, devotion to all her students and she was loved and cherished by all who knew her.

Surviving are sons Llewellyn and his wife Dawn of Hamlin and Chris and his wife Patty of Honesdale; a daughter Carol Williams and her husband Hank of Lake Ariel; a brother Ned Evans and his wife Marlene of Clarks Summit; grandchildren Robert and his wife Kristin, MaryLou, Lauren, Ryan and his wife Amanda, Brent and Gwen; great grandchildren Logan and Luke; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11am in the Centenary United Methodist Church, Route 590 Hamlin with services by Rev. Ted Faux.

Friends may call Tuesday from 5-8pm in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd Lake Ariel and Wednesday morning from 10:15am until time of service in the church.

Anthony M. Cerar, Old Bridge, NJ, formerly of Lake Ariel, died Monday at home after an illness. His widow is the former Frances Koza.
 
Born in Forest City, son of the late Jerry and Josephine Russ Cerar, prior to retirement he was a bottler at the Budwieser Brewing Plant, Newark, NJ. He was a former member of St. Thomas More Church.
 
Also surviving are a son Joseph, Old Bridge, NJ; sisters Angela Morris, Margaret Aurriema, and Mary Keenan all of NJ; 3 grandchildren Joseph, Kristen, and David; 4 great-grandchildren Nathali, Kyra, Joseph III, and Alexander; several nieces and nephews.
 
He was preceded in death by brothers Charles and Edward; a sister Ann Hayton.
 
The Funeral will be Friday at 9:00am from the James Wilson Funeral Home Rt. 296 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with a Mass of Christian Burial to celebrated at 9:30am in St. Thomas More Church 105 Gravity Rd. with services by Rev. Michael Finn.

Joan C. Nevelik, Lake Ariel, formerly of Valley Stream, NY, died Friday at the V.N.A. Hospice Unit in the Community Medical Center. Her husband of 62 years is Frank Nevelik.
Born in Mannheim, Germany, daughter of the late Fred and Hedwig Cohen Klaus, she was educated in schools in Germany, Switzerland, Holland, and the U.S. Prior to retirement she had been employed as a travel service representative for American Express. She was a member of the American Legion, a veteran of the U.S. Army and volunteered at the Community Medical Center.
Also surviving are a son Alan R. Nevelik, Bellmore, NY; a daughter Joyce L. Fliegel, Merrick, NY; a sister Lore Greenberg, Fresh Meadows, NY; 6 grandchildren.
Services will be held Thrusday at 11:00am in Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, New York with services by Rabbi Charles Schneck.

Born in Hatboro, Pa, daughter of the late Chester and Eleanore Wilkinson Morris. She was a graduate of Hatboro High School and Juaniata College. Prior to retirement she had been employed at ICC in Fort Washington, Pa as a Proof Reader. She was a member of The Indian Rocks Womens Club.

Norman C. Kizer of the Petersburg section of Scranton died tuesday at home. He was born in Scranton son of the late George Maynord and Adelaide Baisden Kizer.graduate of Scranton Technical High School and was a member of Myrtle Street United Methodist Church. Prior to retirement he had been employed as a welder at the Troyler mfg co, Scranton. He was a US Army Veteran. In his younger years he loved to hunt and be in the outdoors.

Surviving are a sister Georgina Rosengrant and Husband Al of Cortez. nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

The funeral will held Monday morning at 11am in the Vanston and James Funeral home 1401 Ash St with services by the Revs Art Yetter and Betty Reilly. Interment private in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst. Friends may sunday from 2-5pm at the funeral home,

Kenneth D. Scheatzle, Mt. Cobb, died Tuesday morning at the Asera Care Hospice Unit at Mid Valley Hospital after a lengthy illness. His widow is the former Lorrie Wagner Koloc.
 
Born December 27, 1929 in Duryea, son of the late John and Beatrice Simmons Scheatzle, he was a graduate of Duryea High School and had been employed for 18 years as the Night Maintenance Manager for Schiffs Restaurant Service, Scranton. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War as a radio operator.
 
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and trips to Atlantic City.
 
Also surviving are daughters Darlene Evans and Gayle Henson and a son Gary all of San Jose, CA.; brothers Al, Clarks Summit, and Jack, Duryea; step-daughters Cindy Wallace, Taylor, and Melissa Lockwood, Sweet Valley; numerous nieces and nephews and grandchildren.
 
He was preceded in death by brothers Glen and Dennis.
 
The funeral service will Monday at 11:00am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Rt. 296 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with services by Rev. William Rushik.

Ellenore Shedlock, Hawley, died Sunday at Mallard Meadows Residential Community. Her 1st husband was the late Carmine Buriello and her 2nd husband was the late Frank Shedlock whom she was married to for 42 years.
 
Born in Hawley, daughter of the late Charles E. and Martha Wheele Austin, she was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Hawley. She was graduate of Hawley High School Class of 1939 and prior to retirement she had been employed at U & B Knitting, Miller Knitting, and Sherman Mills.
 
Surviving are a daughter Marie Casper, S. Canaan; brothers John, Calkins, and Bruce, Hawley; sisters Audrey H. Austin, Milford, Martha Frisbie, Matamoras, Barbara Frisbie, Hawley, Pauline Anderson, Arizona; grandchildren Julia and Jennifer.
 
She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters Mary Jane Delling, Grace Thompson, Joe, Howard, Edward, George, William, Blair, and infants Martin, Mildred, and Faith Ann; a son-in-law Jerry Casper.
 
The funeral will be Saturday at 10:00am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Rt. 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel will services by Rev. Wilbur Black.

Oral L. McCutcheon, age 92, of Lake Ariel, died January 21, 2009 at Brighten @ Julia Ribaudo Senior Care Center. Her husband was the late John McCutcheon.
 
Born in Niagara, ND, daughter of the late Erroll and Lucy Watson Comstock, she was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Hamlin. Prior to retirement she had been employed as a clerk for Sperry Gyroscope Co., Long Island.
 
Surviving are  a daughter Barbara Hraba and her husband James, Lake Ariel; brothers , Wallace Comstock, TX, John Comstock, NC, Darryl Comstock, ID; sisters Dorothy Wolfe, CA and Audrey Comstock, MO; seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
 
She was preceded in death by her two sons Thomas McElheny and David McElheny; a daughter Deanna Marrow; brothers Dwain, Richard, and Delbert Comstock; sisters Velma Adair, and Gleva Wilson.
 
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2:00pm in St. John's Episcopal Church Rt. 191 Hamlin with services by Fr. Edward K. Erb.
 
Cremation took place in the Lake Region Crematory at the James Wilson Funeral Home.
 
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in Pinelawn National Cemetery, Long Island.

Dr Clarence D. Parks, V.M.D

     Dr Clarence D. Parks, VMD, 97 of Varden, Wayne County died wednesday evening at home. His wife of 69 years was the former Martha Shotwell Parks who died in 2003. He was born in susquehanna county son of the late Robert D. and Mildred Pooler Parks. He was graduate of Susquehanna high School and University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1933 with a degree in Veterinary Medicine. Dr Parks moved to Wayne county to practice as a horse Docter to treat farm horses. In the late 1930s as farms shifted to tractors he changed his practise to the dairy farms. In the 1960s many small dairy farms were forced to close for economic reasons, he closed his vet practise and became a Pa State medical inspector for dairy herds, he did this for 20 years retiring in 1985 at age of 74 after 51 years of service to the farming communitiy of wayne county. He also was an advocate to the morgan horse and the preservation of their bloodlines through public service and education. Doc enjoyed competitive 100 mile trail endurence rides in vermont winning at age 33 and again at 75. He also drove twp wheeled  cart 100 mile competitions. He was the first competitir to have driven one horse 1000 miles in competition.Doc was a man of integrity, gentelness, politeness, professionalism, a keen thinker a man of spirit and good humor and few words. He was devoted to hid love of animals and teaching people that animals have many fo the feeling and emotions people posses.

     Surviving daughter Sylvia Shaffer and husband David ,Varden, wayne county Son Lewis and wife Joan Glen Aubrey Ny,Daughter in Law Carolyn Parks Waymart, Brother Gerald and wife Beverly of susquehanna County, Sisters  Doris Kniskern and betty Bell of Courtland Ny. grandchildren Jeffrey parks, Carla Feringa and husband Kenneth, Eroh Shaffer and wife Karen, Chad Parks and wife Jessica, Tiffany Shaffer Lisa Eldred and Husband Harry. 4 great grandchildren several nieces and nephews. preceded in death by Son George ,Brothers Ivan and Floyd.

Martina Jo-Ann Kay, Lake Ariel, passed away Friday at CMC Hospice after battling a lengthly illness.

She was the beloved wife of William R. Kay, Sr. Mother of William R. Kay, Jr. Lake Ariel and Dawn L. Kay, Spring City, Pa. Grandmother of
Nathan J. Kay. Also surviving are brothers Edwin Ver Hage, Pompton Plains NJ, Richard Ver Hage, North Haledon, NJ, and Kryn Ver Hage, Franklin, NJ.

Survived by many nieces and nephews.

Russell E. Frisbie of Dunmore died Saturday morning at home. He was preceded in death by two wives Irene and victoria. Born in cortez son of the lare Thomas and Anna Shadler. Prior to retirement he been employed by PPL. He was a member of Aurora Lodge 523 F&AM, and various Masonic bodies. He was also a US Marine veteran serving in WW2.

Surviving are sister in laws, nieces, nephews and cousin and many friends. He was preceded in death by a brother Stanley.

Thomas Louis Murphy, 65 of Lake Ariel died unexpectedly at home Monday. His wife of the past 34 years is the former Marcia Peters.

Born in Manhattan, the son of the late Neil Murphy and Mary Pullen Murphy, with whom he currently resided, Tom lived in Keene, NH, Staten Island, NY, and Lake Ariel. He was truly at home on Silver Lake in Harrisville, NH. He was a welder by trade, then became a New York City Fireman serving in Ladder 132/Engine 280 in Brooklyn, and Ladder 85/Engine 165 on Staten Island. After 18 years, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by becoming an airline pilot first for New York Air, then as a Captain for Continental Airlines, retiring 5 years ago. His most recent accomplishment was to become a member of the Quiet Birdmen.

As a young man, Tom raced boats around New York and New Jersey shore. Piloting his Triad Powerboat on Silver Lake was his pride and joy. An avid model airplane enthusiast, everything he constructed was meticulous and precise. He loved his King Kat turbine and Weeks Solution Bi-Plane. Tom enjoyed snowmobiling in NH, and animals. No cat or dog would ever go hungry around him.

A loving father, Tom is survived by a daughter, Kristin Williams, and husband Robert, Lake Ariel. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas in 1984.

Juanita E. Doerries, RN., Port Jervis NY, died Monday in the Brighten at Julia Ribaudo Nursing Home, Lake Ariel, PA. She was the widow of Louis Doerries.
 
Born In Port Jervis, NY, daughter of the late Robert and Elizabeth Keller Henness, she was a graduate of Matamoras High School, where she was Captain of the girls basketball team, and the Robert Packer School of Nursing, Sayre, PA. She had served as an R.N. at Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis, NY, St. Frances Hospital and Dr. Sunnyside Hospitals Port Jervis, NY. She had also worked for Dr. Clare Sui, Milford, PA.
 
Surviving are a son Robert and his wife Elizabeth, Warren, NJ; a daughter Janet Dashio and her husband Michael, Sandyston, NJ; a sister Annette Codichini, Matamoras; 3 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
