Lynnann Moore, 45, Lake Ariel, died unexpectedly Saturday at home.
Born in Peckville, daughter of Allyn E and Mary Ann Swoyer Moore of Edgewater, Fl. She was a graduate of North Pocono High School and the Empire Beauty School. She had worked at JCPenny’s and was also a floral designer at the Flower Basket. She was also an auxillary member of the American Legion Post 411, Jessup and a member of the Jefferson Twp. Ambulance Corp.

Surviving are a brother Jeffrey Moore and his wife Penny of Mt. Cobb; two nephews; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday at 2pm in the Centenary United Methodist Church, Route 590 Hamlin Highway, Hamlin.
Interment, Kizer Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Helen Krisovitch of San Diego, Ca formerly of Hamlin died thursday Dec 11,2008 in California.

She was the widow of Joseph Krisovich. Born in Lake Ariel daughter of the late Carl and Margaret Jones Saar.

She was a graduate of Lake Consolidated Schools and was a member of St Thomes More St Marys Parrish Community. Prior to retirement she had been employed by Giant Markets.   

 Surviving are a daughter Beth Anderson and husband Ken of Madison Twp, Sons Michael of San Diego, Ca, Joseph and wife Mary of Lake Ariel and Peter and Wife Nancy Sterling. A Brother Charles Saar of Lake Ariel, a sister Margaret Gordon of Scranton, 5 grandchildren 3 greatgrandchildren sev N/N. Preceded in death by Brothers Richard and William, Sister Elaine Browning and Grace Boos.   

 A Blessing service will be held on monday morning at 10am in the James Wilson Funeral Home 143 Gravity Rd Rt 296 Lake Ariel. Interment All Saints Slovak Cemetery, Hollisterville. Friends may call monday morning from 9am until service time.

Albert Peter Gregorski, Sr., Hamlin, died Sunday at Mercy Hospital after an illness. His widow is the former Blanch Van Sickle. The couple had been married for 62 ½ years.
 
Born in Richmondale, Pa., son of the late Charles and Mary Radulski Gregorski, he was a graduate of Eugene Fields School, Dunmore. He was member of the Canaan Bible Chapel. Prior to retirement he been employed by the Iron Workers Local 489.. He was a life member of Samson WWII Veterans Association, Samson Ny, American Legion, Dunmore, and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII.
 
Also surviving are sons Chick and his wife Pat, Moscow, Albert Jr. and his wife Anna, Moscow, Paul and his wife Carolyn, Lake Ariel, John and his wife Ann, Hamlin, Robert and his wife Tina, Lake Ariel; daughters Susan and her Husband Doug Chapman, Lake Ariel, Kathy Hettes, Hamlin, Mary and her husband Duane Owens, Virginia, Diane Van Leuven, Lake Ariel; a sister Cecilia O’Riely, Florida; 15 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
 
He was preceded in death by a brother Edward; sons-in-law Gordon Hettes and Brian Van Leuven.
 
The Funeral Service will be Saturday at 11:00 in the James Wilson Funeral Home Rt. 296 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with services by son-in-law Rev. Duane Owens.

William H. Uhl, 75, Wallenpaupack Lake Estates, Lake Ariel went home to the Lord on Thursday. He passed away in the peaceful and loving atmosphere of the VNA Hospice Unit at the Community Medical Center. His wife is the former Patricia Keeler. The couple had been married for 32 years.
 Born in Allentown, son of the late Harold and Cristine Fallstick Uhl. Prior to retirment he had been employed as a Tool and Dye Maker for the Binney and Smith Company.
He enjoyed fishing, auctions, and his antique quilt business.
Surviving are sons Jeffrey of West Virginia, Keith of Hamburg and Michael of Copley; daughters Shelley Counterman of Lake Ariel, Melissa Dingle of Easton and Christine Uhl of Ca.; several grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his first wife Patricia Missimer Uhl. There will be no public calling hours.
Cremation will take place in the Lake Region Crematory at the James Wilson Funeral Home, Lake Ariel.

Walter A. Bryden Jr of Hamlin died thursday afternoon in the Hospice unit at Mercy Hospital, Scranton.He was preceded in death by his wife Lillian Golod Bryden in 2007. He was born in Scranton son of the late Walter A. and Eva Heere Bryden Sr. He was a graduate of Lake Ariel high School.Prior to retirement he had been employed by Wyoming Paint Co as a picture framer. He also owned Wayne Picture framing co in Hamlin. He was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors.

Anthony Kruchinski, Sr., Moscow, died Thursday at home after an illness. His widow is the former Kathryn Vonderhey. The couple had been married for 61 years.
 
Born in Dupont, son of the late John and Nellie Madziak Kruchinski, he was a welder for Glasgow Construction. He attended St. Eulalia’s Church.

Simon T. Gilpin, Ledgedale, died Wednesday afternoon at home after a courageous battle with cancer. His wife is Jane Dugan-Gilpin.
 
Born in Ledgedale, son of the late Charles and Bernice Chapman Gilpin, he was a self-employed small engine repairman and had been employed at the Milford Cemetery Association. He was a graduate of Newfoundland High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
 
Also surviving are a step-daughter Lisa Naughton and her husband Liam, Staten Island, NY; a son Scott and his wife Kathleen, New Jersey; 4 grandsons; 1 granddaughter; several brothers and sisters; mother-in-law Mary Dugan, Ledgedale; several nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; cousins.
 
He was preceded in death by a brother Richard.

Born in Lewisburg, PA, daughter of the late William and Katherine Mullen Murtha, she was a graduate of St. John’s High School, Pittston, and Marywood University, earning an B.S. in music. She was a music teacher in Indian Head, MD, Lakewood, PA and retired from the Western Wayne School District. She was a member of St. Thomas More/St. Mary’s Parish Community.
 
Surviving are a son Robert, Lake Ariel; daughters Patricia Jappe, Lakewood, CO and Maureen Nolan, Iowa; a sister Theresa Palitowski, NJ; grandchildren Fallon, Nate, Jasen, Eric and Ryan; several nieces and nephews.
 
She was preceded in death by a brother William Murtha.

Born in Summerville MA, daughter of the late Matthew and Ruth E. Mullaney La France, she was a graduate of Woburn High School Class of 1964 and was employed as a Medical Assistant for Scranton Primary Health Center.
 
She enjoyed quilting and canning.

She was preceded in death by sons Sean and Daniel and a daughter Michelle Lynn Kovaleski.

Robert "Joey" Simansky, 65,of Lake Ariel, formerly of Throop died November 29, 2008 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale following an illness. Born in Scranton son of Mary Nosek Simansky, Lake Ariel and the late Michael Simansky.

Joey was a graduate of Throop High School and Johnson Technical School. Prior to retirement he was employed by C & O Distributors and Jaunty Fabrics. He enjoyed helping on his brothers farm, fishing, and hunting.

Also survived by a brother Leon, Lake Ariel.

Preceded in death by: A brother Michael and a sister Rosemary Emmel.

Dorothy Lyman Shaffer, Lake Ariel, died Tuesday morning at Brighten at Julia Ribaudo Senior Center after an illness. She was preceded in death by her 1st husband Walter G. Rowan and her 2nd husband Everett R. Shaffer.

Born in Croydon, Pa., daughter of the late Carl F. and Dorothy Mae Lyman Wilke Roberts, she was a graduate of Brooklyn High School, New York. Prior to retirement she was a phone operator at Community Medical Center and was a school bus driver for Watts Busing.
The Family would like to thank the staff at Julia RibadoSenior Care Center for the tender loving care they gave to Dorothy over theselast few months. Every staff member treated her like she was theirown family member. She had a kind and loving heart for everyone she met. Her historicalknowledge of this area both genealogical and geological was immenseand will be missed. While not a regular church going person, her faithin the lord was strong.
Surviving are sons Rev. Walter Rowan, Exton, Pa., Richard Shaffer, Corvallis, Or., William Rowan, Lake Ariel; a daughter Dorothy Olson, Hagerstown, Md.; grandchildren Jeffery, Vicki, Rachel, Matthew, Eric, James, Terri, Billy; great-grandchildren Tommy, Ray-Lynn, Hannah, Cierra, and Haden.

Robert C. Fielding, South Canaan, died Tuesday in the Putnam Community Medical Center in Florida after an illness. His wife was the former Ruth P. Ziegler who died in 1981.
Born in Carbondale, son of the late Clare and Sadie Enslin Fielding. He attended the South Canaan Free Methodist Church. Prior to retirement he had been employed as a dairy farmer for over 50 years.

He loved hunting, fishing and bowling. Surviving are a son Gary of South Canaan; daughters Patricia Buehring and her husband Carl of Moscow, Jean Strasser and her husband Mark of Lakeville, and Joan Fielding of Lake Ariel; his longtime companion and caregiver Alice Alunni; sisters Doris Robinson of Florida and Virginia Johnson of Waymart; grandchildren Timothy, Sarah, Phillip, George, and Nicole: nieces and nephews.

Pastor Jim Bond, Browndale, died Tuesday morning at the home of family friends Rod and Keri McLaughlin, Beach Lake, following a year-long battle with Ewing’s Sarcoma. His widow is the former Merrily de Haan.
 
Born in Honesdale, son of Gordon J. and Carolyn Jackson Bond, Columbia, SC, he was a graduate of Dickinson College, Carlisle, PA, where he received his undergraduate degree in anthropology and biology, and Baptist Bible Seminary, Clarks Summit, where he completed his Master of Ministry degree. He was most recently an assistant pastor at Canaan Bible Chapel and a teacher at Canaan Christian Academy. Previous employment includes serving as a church planter and pastor at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Forest City, working as a sales representative for Nystrom Map and Globe, a division of Herff-Jones, Inc., working in the community relations department at Wayne Memorial Hospital as the director of grant-funded community health ministry program, teaching at the Walker School in Marietta, GA, and teaching at the Brandon Hall School, Atlanta, GA.
 
In addition to his family, his greatest passion in life was teaching. He enjoyed helping students succeed in developing their academic abilities as well as leading them into a closer walk with Jesus Christ.

The family will receive friends Friday from 5:00-8:00pm at the Canaan Bible Chapel 30 Hemlock Rd. Lake Ariel.
 
The Funeral Service will be Saturday at 10:00am in the Canaan Bible Chapel with services by Rev. Matthew Wolfe and he will be assisted by Pastor Jamison Woodall of the Genesis Church, Petoskey, Michigan.
 
The interment will be private in the Canaan Corners Cemetery, Waymart.
 
A reception will immediately follow the service in the Church’s Fellowship Hall.

Leigh B. Gillette, 91, Lake Ariel, died Saturday evening at his daughter’s home after an illness. His wife Alice I. "Tootie" Kellogg Gillette died December 1998.
 
Born in Lake Ariel, where he lived his whole life, on October 14, 1917, son of the late Thomas and Blanche Bisbing Gillette, he was the last surviving child of their twelve children. He worked for the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad and Amtrack, first on bridges and later as a cook for the camp car gangs. He retired from Amtrack. He attended the Johnson Trade School for cabinet making, was a graduate of the Lake Ariel High School and a member of the Lake Ariel United Methodist. He served in the Army 1st Calvary Division in Tokyo, Japan in 1945 and was a member of the American Legion Post 254.
 
Surviving are a daughter Gloria Jean Czubowicz, Lake Ariel; a son Ronald L., Round Rock, Tx; four grandchildren Billy and Kevin Czubowicz, Lake Ariel, Ronald Gillette and Dawn Marie Dicken, Round Rock, Tx; two great-grandchildren Ashley Pinales and Ryleigh Dicken, Round Rock, Tx.
 
He was preceded in death by sisters Susan, Mabel, and Gladys; brothers Edward, Thomas, Alvin, Raymond, Ken, Fred, Frank, and William.

Elsie Swingle of Hollisterville died early Saturday morning in the Brighten @ Julia Ribaudo Nursing Home, Lake Ariel. She was the widow of Charles R. Swingle who died in 1986. Born in LaAnna daughter of the late Alfred and Sadie MeGargle Beavers. She was a member of the Pentacostal Assembly of God Church of Hamlin and its Womens ministries. The family would like to thank the employees of Julia Ribaudo nursing home for the wonderful care that was given to their mother.

Marie Jean Field, Hamlin, died Saturday morning at home after an illness. Her husband is Ronnie J. Field. The couple had been married for 28 years.     

Born in Bridgeport, Ct., daughter of Theodore Rumovicz and step daughter of Mildred Rumovicz of Port Charlotte, Fl., and of the late Christine Lemone Rumovicz. She was a graduate of North Pocono High School. She had been employed by Weis Markets as a cashier.   

Surviving are a son Ronnie Jr.; daughters Trista and Shelly Field all of Hamlin; a brother Ted of Stratford, Ct.; several nieces and nephews.    Preceded in death by twin brother Phillip.

Albert R. Capel, Justus, died October 3rd at the Lackawanna County Health Care Center after an illness. His loving wife was the late Emma Hand.

Born July 19, 1912, in Scranton, son of the late Roy T. and Catherine Colo Capel, he had been employed by Air Products Inc. until his retirement. He was a veteran of World War II where he fought in the battle of Okinawa, serving both in the Army and the Navy for a total of sixteen years. He was a member of the Mt. Bethel Baptist Church and a lifelong member of the American Legion Post 665, Dickson City.

He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, trapper, and fisherman. He also enjoyed gardening.

A special thanks to the Staff at Lackawanna County Health Care Center for the loving care they provided to Al for the past three years, and to Mercy Hospice for their care and support.

He was preceded in death a daughter Kay Capel Snover.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held Saturday October 25th at 10:00am in the Mt. Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery Layton Rd. Clarks Summit. A Memorial Service will follow at 10:30am in the Mt. Bethel Baptist Church 1309 Layton Rd. Clarks Summit.

She was the widow of Joseph Conway who died in 1982.     Born in Dunmore, daughter of the late Michael and Melinda Waite Henneforth, she was a graduate of the Hollisteville School. She was member of Pocono Bible Church and also attended the 1st Baptist Church of Hollisterville.   

 Surviving are a son Sr. Judge Robert Conway, Lake Ariel; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.    She was preceded in death by a daughter Dorothy M. Chapman, R.N.; brothers Lester and Clarence Henneforth; a grandson Patrick Chapman; great-grandchildren Daniel and Nicole Chapman; a daughter-in-law Maralyn Conway.

William F. Weitzel, Lake Ariel, died Wednesday in the Community Medical Center after an illness. His widow is the former Irene Beavers. The couple had been married for 48 years. Born in Scranton, son of the late Charles and Emma Burris Weitzel. He attended the Grace Bible Church, Dunmore. He was a member of the Staff Sergeant Paul A. Sweeney American Legion Memorial Post 807 and was also a member of the Camp Evergreen Hunting Club, Starruca. He was a United States Navy veteran having served for 22 years.

Born in Honesdale, daughter of the late Charles H. and Jennie Glover Roe she was a graduate of the Honesdale High School Class of 1936 and Wayne Commerical School Class of 1941. She had worked at F.W. Woolworth Co. for 4 years, for the United States Government in the War Department Ordinance Division, in Washington, D.C. at the Pentagon for 3 ½ years, Nestle Coffee Co. as a demonstrator for 3 years and Days Bakery in Honesdale for 2 years. She worked as the Manager of the Hamlin Diner for 25 years from 1956-1981 and managed the New Hamlin Diner for 1 ½ years from 1989-1991 until her retirement in 1991.
 
She was a former 50 year member of the Central United Methodist Church, Honesdale, a 10 year member of the Centenary United Methodist Church, Hamlin, and a member of the Administrative Council and the Board of Trustees at the Centenary United Methodist Church. She was a Past Director of Moscow’s Pre-School Board, Past Director of St. John’s Limited Board and the Charter Vice-President of the Southern Wayne Chamber of Commerce where she also served as President for 1 ½ years. She was a Western Wayne School Director where she served for 13 years, of which 10 years as Board Treasurer. She helped organize and served as President of Little League and Teener League Baseball in Hamlin.
 
Surviving are 4 sons Frederick and his wife Eleanor, Richard and his wife Theresa, Clyde, all of Hamlin, Clarence and his companion Cindy Canfield, Torey; a brother-in-law Paul Liptak, Bethany; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 4 nieces Donna Jackson, Laura Hasty, Joyce Roe, and Carol Walker; 5 nephews Daniel, Jerry, David, and James Liptak, and Robert Roe, Jr.
 
She was preceded in death by a sister Jane Liptak; a brother Robert C. Roe and Arthur E. Roe; a grandson John Myers; a niece Karen Roe Lizotte.

Surviving are daughters Georgia Grudeski and her husband Richard of South Canaan and Helen Butler and her husband Lester of Mt. Cobb; a step daughter Marge Chamberlin and her husband Thomas of Sayre; grandchildren Homer Butler, Lester Butler, Jr., Bessie Prussia, Joanne Perry, Brian Butler, Sandra Van Sickle, Luciana Medric, Erica Arre and Stacy Arre; 22 great grandchildren; 15 great great grandchildren. His wife is the former Dorothy Agnes Bush Cassidy. The couple had been married for 16years. His first wife, the former Jean Patterson died in 1991. Born in East Lansing, Michigan, son of the late Ingwald and Clara Hopper Wangberg. He earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and then earned a Master’s Degree from MIT in meteorology and a Master’s Degree in Education from Western Michigan University.

He was a member of the St Thomas More/St Mary’s Parish Community. Prior to retirement he had been employed as a teacher for over 30 years in various public schools in Michigan and retired as an associate professor of education at Western Michigan University. He was a United States Navy veteran.

Surviving are sons Mark and his wife Meg of Pa., Chris and his wife Terry of Iowa, step-son Joseph Cassidy and his wife Paula of New Jersey; daughters Susan Martin and her husband Robert of Washington, Laura Denenberg and her husband Irve of Colorado, Sally Newton and her husband James of Michigan; step daughters Catherine Cassidy and her husband Kent of New Jersey, Susan Pignatello, Grace Clauss and her husband Dr. Patrick all of Lake Ariel and Ruthanne Griffin and her husband Bob of New Jersey; sister Joy Sleeper of Michigan; grandchildren Michelle, Kyle, Jonathon, Kelly, Megan, Nicholas, Rachel, Catherine, Samantha, Amanda, Grace Ann, Veronica, Cassidy, Jenna, Alexandra, Joseph, Sean, Juliet, David, Joseph, Kevin, Kirsten, David, Patrick, Fiona, and Theresa; great grandchildren Isabella, Django, Augustus, Abijah, Royal, Carlin and Julian. Prior to retirement she had been employed as an accountant with the Independent Explosives Company. She volunteered with the Jefferson Township Census.

Surviving are sons Rev. Willard H. Black and his wife Barbara and David R. Black and his wife Cathy all of Moscow; a daughter Naomi Black and her husband Jerry of Lake Ariel; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by a daughter Marilyn Chapman and a sister Elizabeth Seeley.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday at 11am in the Elmdale Bible Church Route 348 Mt. Cobb officiated by Rev. John Pisarek.

Daniel S. Heimel, Maplewood, died Saturday morning in the VNA Hospice Unit at the Community Medical Center after a courageous six year battle with his illness.

His wife of 29 years is the former Patricia 'Patty' Perkins. Born in West Chester, son of Helen Jones Heimel of Scranton and the late William C. Heimel. He was a graduate of Henderson High School, West Chester. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church.

He had been a former owner of a Mac Tool Distribution business and was also a manager of Joe Black’s 84 Diesel. He was a member of the Maplewood Volunteer Fire Company where he had also served as a former chief. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. His passion was John Deere Tractors.

Surviving are sons Daniel Stine, Jr of Mt Cobb and Brian Stine of Lake Ariel; Danielle Roberts of Maplewood and Dana Topa of Mt. Cobb; a brother David of Factoryville; grandchildren Nichole, Ariel, Michael, Andrew, Julie, James, Colin, Daniel III, Kylie, and Timmy, Jr.; a nephew; his best friend Joe Black.

He was also an expert in the construction of water wheels. He was a graduate of the Lake Consolidated School and was a member of the Canaan Bible Chapel Church.

Born in Brooklyn, New York and raised in North Babylon, Long Island daughter of the late Howard and Tekla Nordlund. She was a physical therapist with Wayne Memorial Hospital Home Health Services and Home Staff.

Surviving are sisters Carolyn Millard and Laura Galloway; family Aunt Helen; cousins Nels, Bob, Lance, Birgitta, Jennifer, Erik, Rob, Casie Jae and Kyra; loved and adored by countless friends Lydia, Diana, Lind Ra, Sherry, Lucille, Rita, and Mary Ellin.

Linda loved working with people and traveling. Her favorite place was Yosemite National Park and California. She loved dancing and was a member of the Elk Mountaineers Square Dancing Club.

Erma H. Beavers, 82, Maplewood, died Sunday at the home where she was born and raised after a long illness. She was in the care of Allied in Home Health Care, Mercy Home Health and her loving family. Her husband of 65 years is Edward S. Beavers.
        
Born in Maplewood, daughter of the late Eugene and Margaret Masters Black, she was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for several years and was loved by all. She loved being outside doing things in the yard. She also loved being with her family making ice cream and doing other family activities.
         
Surviving are four children, Erma Jean Corcoran and her husband William, Honesdale; Joyce A. Jones and her husband Rodney, West Virginia; Clyde E. Beavers and his wife Mary Ann, Elmhurst, and his former wife Connie Fields-Beavers, Hamlin; Leona Marchington and her husband William, Maplewood; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
        
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter Julie Corcoran; several brothers and sisters; nieces and nephews.

His wife is the former Gloria Jean Gillette. The couple had been married for 46 years. Born in Ledgedale, son of the late Chester and Isabelle Christopher Czubowicz. He was a graduate of the former Lake Consolidated School.

He was a social member of the Mid Valley Disabled American Veterans. Prior to retirement he had been employed as an inspector with Ford Motor Company. He was a United States Navy veteran serving four years on the submarines USS Gruper and the USS Dogfish.

Surviving are sons William and Kevin both of Lake Ariel; brother John of Dickson City; sisters Carol Dzwieleski, Katherine Piccoli, and Barbara Tremmel all of Dickson City. Preceded in death by a brother Chester.

Cathy spent her life caring for her entire family and especially enjoyed spending time with her ten grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who willed missed by all who knew and loved her.

He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Theodore P. Knickerbocker, Mt. Cobb, died early Tuesday morning at the Community Medical Center after an illness. His wife is the former Susan Bryden, who was well provided for throughout their 47 years of marriage through Ted’s hard work and perseverance. He always made sure her wants and needs were fulfilled, however big or small.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Theodore and Eleanor Ritter Knickerbocker, he owned and operated Ted’s Bait for 50 years.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved good fish fry, especially if it was with the gang in Canada.

He was a mentor to his beloved grandchildren Cameron, Brayden and Chase Knickerbocker and spent countless hours teaching them everything he could. He was proud of his three "little men".

Also surviving are a son Brian Knickerbocker and a daughter Denise Knickerbocker, both of Mt. Cobb, who will hold on dearly to the lessons he has taught them and the memories he created along the way.

He was preceded in death by two sons Mark Allen and Richard Raymond Knickerbocker.

Joseph F. Gershey, 83, Lake Ariel died Friday evening in the Mercy Hospital after an illness.

His wife is the former Charlotte Krisovitch. They had been married for 60 years. Born in Scranton son of the late Joseph and Pauline Durech Gershey. He was raised in Hamlin and later moved to Caldwell, NJ where he raised his family for 33 years and afterwards he retired back to Hamlin.

He was a member of the St. Thomas More/St. Mary’s Parish Community, the Hamlin Senior Center, and also a member of VFW Post 531, Honesdale and the American Legion Post 807. He was a US Navy veteran serving primarily in the South Pacific. He was a 3rd class Chief Petty Officer aboard the destroyer USS Sigourney . He was a gunner and a barber aboard the ship.

He recently attended the 'Tour of Honor' trip to the WWII Memorial in Washington. He was a former barber and later worked in the tool and die industry for 20years in New Jersey. He retired as a quality assurance manager from Weiss-Aug, Inc., East Hanover, NJ in 1986. He was an avid sportsman, playing on several softball teams in both Pa and NJ.

He enjoyed bowling, golf, fishing, hunting and gardening. Surviving are a son Joseph and his wife Audrey and a daughter Barbara Lawshe and her husband Harvey all of New Jersey; beloved grandchildren Matthew, Eric, Jessica, and Maureen; brothers Stanley Davailus of Moscow and George Davailus of Lake Ariel; sisters Anne Shearer of New York, Josephine James of Taylor, and Elizabeth Davailus of Lake Ariel; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by brothers Louis and John Gershey, Tony, Frank and Edward Davailus and a sister Mary Pesarcik.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, son of the late Kurk and Mary Coulter Croughn. He was of the Catholic faith. He had been employed as a tool and die maker for Wagner-Lockeed.

A memorial service will be held at a time to be announced in Newark, NJ.

Born in Honesdale, daughter of the late Ira S. and Henrietta Stermer Conklin, she attended the Wimmers Bible Fellowship Church. She was a graduate of the former Lake Consolidate School.

Surviving are sons Noel and his wife Dottie of Hop Bottom, Rev. Gerald and his wife Sharon of Mansfield; a daughter Ann Price of Lake Ariel; brothers Earl D. Conklin of Honesdale and Gerald Conklin of Lake Ariel; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by a daughter Glenda Henwood and a granddaughter Sonya Joy Henwood.

Memorial service will be held Saturday at 11am in the Wimmers Bible Fellowship Church 200 Wimmers Rd. Mt. Cobb.

Cremation took place in the Lake Region Crematory at the James Wilson Funeral Home, Lake Ariel.

Born in Newark, NJ, son of the late Louis R., Sr and Elizabeth Reidy White. He was of the Catholic faith. Prior to retirement he had been employed as a warehouseman in the wholesale tire industry and also as a drywall finisher. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1169, Bristol.
Surviving are two sons Louis R. III and wife Jean of Madison Twp., Pa. and Michael and wife Margie of Philadelphia; grandchildren Michelle, Matthew, Shawn, and Dale; great grandchildren Colin, James, Patrick, Jason, Ryan, Autum, and Joey; a niece and two nephews.
 Preceded in death by a sister Betty Darby.
A celebration of Louis’s life will be held May 17 in the Moose Lodge 1169 corner of Radcliff St and Green Ln, Bristol, Pa. from 4-6pm.
Interment will take place in the Gen. William Doyle Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ on Friday, May 16 at 3pm.

Andy Boandl, 46, Hamlin, died Wednesday morning at home in peace after his long, courageous struggle with cancer. His wife of 17 years is the former Mary Ellen Durkin.
Born in Ledgdale, son of John and Marion Stutts Boandl, Ledgedale, he had been employed at Legdedale Construction as a carpenter. He was United States Army veteran.
He was the President of the Hamlin Hawgs Motor Cycle Club and organized and participated in many benefit rides. He also generously gave his hair to Locks of Love before being stricken with cancer himself.
He is a treasure that will never be lost to all that know him. He was a devoted and cherished husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.
Also surviving are sons Drew and John, both at home; a daughter Dakota, at home; brothers John, Williamsport, and Donnie, Ledgedale; in-laws Eugene and Mary Durkin, Hamlin; many nieces and nephews; a great-niece; great friends.

She was graduate of Lake Ariel High School and a member of Grace united Methodist Church Maplewood and the Pilgrim Congregational church in Pomona Park Fl, and the Pomona Park Grange Fl serving as past secratery. In 1942 Sarah became the first female postal carrier in the area she also worked as postal clerk in the Hamlin Pa and Pomona Park Fl post offices. She and her late husband ran Blacks grocery store until its closing then operated Blacks Landing at Lake Henry before moving ti Fl.
Surviving a sister Elna Wargo and Husband John of Maplewood,2 nephews and a niece sev great nieces and nephews and one great great niece &nephew. Preceded in death by brothers William and James Ovens and sisters Betty Houpt and Peggy Boyle and step father Stuart Black.

Mary Leona Pitcavage, Hamlin, 86, went to live with the Lord on Saturday April 12, 2008 in the Mercy Hospital Hospice Unit after an illness. Her husband of 43 years was Stanley Pitcavage who died in 1989.
 
Born March 25, 1922 in S. Canaan, daughter of the late Frank and Mary Kulis Krishak, she was a member of St. Thomas More/St. Mary’s Parish Community. She helped run the family farm with her husband and had also been employed at Katz Manufacturing, Honesdale.
 
Mary was a kind, loving lady who was devoted to her family. She will be missed by all those whose lives she touched and brought smiles to.
 
Surviving are 2 sons Robert, at home, and Stanley and his wife Roseanne, Clinton, Ct.; 3 daughters Geraldine Smith and her husband Dan, Erie, Pa., Dolores Biddix and her husband Jack, Gaffney, S.C., and Theresa Myers and her husband Richard, Hamlin; a sister Adele Stalowski and her husband Fritz, Ocean Gate, N.J.; a sister-in-law Irene Kucharski, Throop; 9 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
 
She was preceded in death by a brother, 2 sisters, and a grandchild Lorianne Biddix.

Adolph H. Schneider, 82, Lake Ariel, died Tuesday in the Asera Care Hospice Unit at the Mid Valley Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born September 5, 1925 in Hawley son of the late William and Hazel Schneider he was a United States Army Veteran serving in World War II. Prior to retirement he had been employed as a stone mason. He enjoyed working with his hands and stone.

Surviving are three children Lonnie and his wife Janet of Gouldsboro, Debra Lamberton and her husband Rodger, Brenda Kovaleski and her husband Greg all of Lake Ariel; two brothers Doug and his wife Ruth and Henry and his wife Lois all of Lake Ariel; two sisters Adeline Griffith of New York and Madeline Nahlen of Peckville; grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by a daughter Linda Burd and an infant son David.

Services and interment private at the convenience of the family.

Born in Prompton, son of the late Raymond and Iva Cramer Henderson, he ran his family dairy farm where he earned a Dairy of Distinction Award. He was also a cattle hauler for many years. He was a graduate of Honesdale High School.
 
He loves his chickens, polkas, dancing, playing cards, and sharing good times with his family and friends.
 
His family would like to thank the staff at Wayne Woodlands Manor and Marian Community Hospital for their kindness and compassion.
 
Also surviving are daughters Margie Henderson and Millie Fitzgerald, both of S. Canaan; two precious grandchildren Colleen and Brian Fitzgerald, both of S. Canaan; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jr. and his wife Vicky and a daughter Donna Sangster and her husband Gary both of Lake Ariel; sisters Veronica Schmidt and Mildred Long both of Lake Ariel, Martha Vanyo, Saratoga Springs, NY, Ann Marie Roslewicz, Greentown, Margaret Worsley, Franklin Square, NY; grandchildren Michael, Vidya, Nadia, Anita, Jessica and Michelle.

He was a member of the American and Pennsylvania Nursery Association and was a Ordained Minister in the Free Methodist Church.

Florence P. Gaylord, 99, of Lake Ariel died January 31, 2008 at Wayne Woodlands Manor, Waymart after an Illness. She was the widow of Charles Arlyn Gaylord, who died in 1967. Born in Vandling, Pa in 1908 she was the daughter of the late Joseph Henry Painter and Elizabeth Ann Trevarthan Painter.

She was a memeber of the Lake Ariel United Methodist Church and was honored for her many years of membership and service in the United Methodist Women's unit. She was the Lake Township  Secretary for nineteen years. She was retired from the former LA Bank. She was a past member of the Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxillary and also a volunteer in the hospital's gift shop. Florence was also honored for her long-time membership in the Lake Ariel Fire Company Auxiliary. Before her illness, she enjoyed lunches with the Autumn Leaves Senior Citizens.

She is survived by her son Richard and his wife Nancy, of Lake Ariel. Several Nieces and Nephews.

She was preceded in death by four brothers William H., Lester, Joseph E., and Gilbert Painter. Two sisters Edith Owens and Emma Lanzetta.

The Family would like to thank all the wonderful personnel of Wayne Woodlands Manor, Waymart for the loving care given to Florence.
There will be no calling hours. Burial will take place in the Spring. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Barbara J. McHugh, Lake Ariel, formerly of Morristown, NJ and Tannersville, Pa., died Saturday at home. Her husband of 37 ½ years is Thomas McHugh.
 
Born in Morristown, NJ, daughter of the late William and Marie Hope-Lane Rickley, she was a 1968 graduate of Morristown High School and was a member of St. Thomas More/St. Mary’s Parish Community, Lake Ariel. She was a member of the Jackson Twp. Volunteer Fire Auxiliary.
 
She was a loving wife, best friend, mother, grandmother and sister.
 
Also surviving are sons Thomas J. and his wife Lauren, Baltimore, Md. and Robert D. and his wife Joanna, Pocono Summit, Pa.; a brother William Rickley and his wife Sherri, McMichaels, Pa.; grandchildren Bobbie, Jena, Ian, T.J.; several nieces and nephews.
 
The Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 10:30am in St. Thomas More Church 105 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel, Pa.
 
Friends may call Wednesday from 9:30am-10:30am in St. Thomas More Church.
Interment, St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ledgedale, Pa.

Roy W. Mignerey, Lake Ariel, died Monday afternoon in the VNA Hospice Unit at the Community Medical Center after an illness. His wife is the former Marjorie Wood. His first wife was the former Eleanor Bortree who died in 1980.

Born in Lake Ariel, son of the late Eugene and Rena Edwards Mignerey, he attended Lake Consolidated Schools. He was a member of the Avoy Christian Church where he served as a Deacon, Trustee and a member of the Cemetery Association. He was employed as a dairy farmer.

Surviving are a step son Ross Frisbie of Archbald; a step daughter Cindy Jones of Lake Ariel; four grandchildren; 1 great grandchild, a nephew Ralph Maines of Florida and a niece Susan Sledzinski of Lake Ariel.

Preceded in death by a brother Edward.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel.
Friends may call Thursday from 4-7pm.
Interment, Avoy Cemetery.
