Florence Edith Farber a resident of the St Mary’s Villa Nursing Home, formerly of Altoona, died  peacefully Friday morning at the Villa after an extended illness.

Born 1935 in Altoona, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret Whitsel Farber.  She was a graduate of the Altoona High School and was a member of the Simpson-Temple United Parish in Altoona.  Prior to her retirement, Florence was a manager for Bell Telephone and later for Verizon.

Surviving is her caretaker Denise Schmitt-Katz of Lake Ariel. and her children Brandon (wife Ivannette), Amanda, Vanessa and Allison.

Florence loved her community and was a member of the Lions Club, Rotary and Soroptimist.  She served on many committees and held various board positions at 58th Street United Methodist Church.  She loved all Pittsburgh sports, the Altoona Curve, taking care of her pets and spending time with family and friends.

A memorial service will be held Sunday August 20, 2017 at 2 pm at Simpson-Temple United Parish,  2212 6^th Avenue,  Altoona, PA  16602, Pastor Denise Arpino officiating.

Interment of cremated remains will take place in the Blair Memorial Park, Altoona.

In lieu of flowers,  memorial contributions may be made to the Simpson-Temple United Parish  or to the Blair County Humane Society, 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd. Altoona, PA 16602.
